A leader in strengthening our community by offering hope and recovery to people struggling with substance use disorders, Alcohol & Drug Council has been awarded a $500,000 grant from the Care Compass Network Innovation Fund. The award will support the development of a 20-24 bed residential detox/stabilization and rehabilitation center in Tompkins County. The facility will offer a 24/7 walk-in path to recovery that is simple and stigma free.

This innovative program supports a level of flexibility across the continuum of care in substance abuse treatment which does not currently exist – filling an important gap in a truly effective service delivery model. Bed assignment and treatment interventions will be determined based on individualized assessments and an evidence-based plan of care.

“We’re very pleased to have been awarded this funding from the Care Compass Network that will help enable us to continue our innovative, forward-thinking program development, and much more effectively and compassionately address a public health crises in our community,” says , The Council’s Executive Director, Angela Sullivan. “Our goal is to offer the best possible evidence-based and easily accessible treatment for people with substance use disorders, and this funding will help us to achieve that goal. This facility will fill a critical healthcare treatment gap and serve as a valuable resource for Tompkins County and beyond.”

The New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS), The Ithaca City Plan, The Tompkins County Local Governmental Unit Plan, and anecdotally many human service agencies, law enforcement agencies, and the Court System have identified inpatient detox as an urgent community need. The Alcohol and Drug Council of Tompkins County is uniquely positioned to respond to this need.
